Ausangate Trek 5D / 4N

The walk around the majestic snow (APU) Ausangate the highest mountain Vilcanota is superb and demanding, as one of the most important Apus Incas. This walk takes place above 4600 m throughout your journey. The Ausangate, set in a spectacular and diverse landscape, geography, geology, erosion, glaciers, snow (Mariposa, Callangate, Colquecruz, Campa, etc.), Fauna and flora of high altitude and quaint customs of the settler Peruvian Andes, may be appreciated and enjoyed in the traditional capital of Peru in textiles, dances Ausangate Valley.

 Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Chillca

Leave early in the morning, in an interesting bus ride along the fertile valley of Vilcanota towards Checacupe. After visiting a colonial church Pitumarca ascend the valley, along the spectacular canyon that leads to Chillca Japura where we will be welcomed by the community. Since there is only a short walk to the first "inn." Once at the lodge will have time to relax and enjoy the music provided by local people.

Day 2: Chillca - Machuracay

Our hike begins in the broad valley Upis where beautiful views of the majestic glaciers above the plain. The road narrows as we approach the waterfalls that descend from the Santa Catalina mountains. This road is mostly used by heavy fire from this region, and once we reached the small lake of Paloma, the whole landscape is strewn with "Andean camelids (llamas and alpacas).

Passing a second pond and across a long series of moraines, one arrives at Machuracay Tambo, located directly at the foot of Ausangate.

Day 3: Machuracay - Anantapata

After a demanding climb to Palomani pass at a height of approximately 5.100 m and a memorable scene, descended to the lake Ausangatecocha. Stunning views of the glacier in the southern part of the "apu" inspire us in our walk, as we approach the sandstone formations, red, "Nevado del Inca."
Overnight stay at the Anantapata Tambo, near the mountain.

Day 4: Antanapata - Huampococha

One of the most spectacular parts of the path leads through the middle of a scenario mountains with layers of red, yellow, ocher, gray and blue, among others. This tract offers excellent opportunities to study the geological wonders and admire the unique beauty of the landscape. It is also the ideal place to watch funny groups vicuñas often found in this isolated area. Surrounded by strange rock formations, spend the night in the Huampococha Tambo, near the lake of the same name, where pairs usually nest "Huallatas" (Andean geese).

Day 5: Huampococha - Cusco

After a last short climb to the passage of Anta, gradually begin our descent. Section the first houses and cultivated fields. The landscape changes quickly and the red sandstone formations are eroded limestone mountains
form a unique forest of stone, ideal habitat for the timid "Viscachas" (family of chinchillas). When we got back to Pitumarca Valley, our bus will be waiting for the return trip to Cusco.
