This is a trip to one of the highest glaciers in Peru: The awesome Ausangate (6384 m). Natives who live there live with their animals, far from the bustle of the modern world. During our tour, passing through walls of ice, some glaciers, frozen rivers, waterfalls, hot springs and groundwater. Find lovely views of the mountains surrounding. We'll see vicuña, vizcachas, condors, flamingos and Andean geese.
Itinerary
DAY 1: Cusco - Tinki
Early in the morning we will take our bus towards the south east of Cusco, to the snow of Ausangate. That night we camp in Tinki to 3.800 meters.
DAY 2: Tinki - Upiss
Early in the morning we will begin our hike, the path is relatively flat (plateau), in the afternoon arrive at Upis and camp near the hot springs.
DAY 3: Upis - Pucacocha
Camp and climb to 4.500 m step which separates Ausangate with Quellacocha. In the afternoon we pass Lake Pucacocha. We will see minor peaks that are covered by snow, where it seems that the sun plays with the helmet full of color. Pucacocha camp.
DAY 4: Pucacocha - Chilcainaya
Continue rising until the passage of Palomani (4.800 m). This is the highest point of our trip. From there we continue to go around the snow of Ausangate through Sivinacochas lagoon. Then descend to the campsite in Chilcapinaya.
DAY 5: Chilcainaya - Pachaspata
Descend to enter the valley ccamp which is inhabited by pastoralists who have large amounts of alpacas and sheep. Lunch at this place and pass by the lake Ticllacocha. Then spend a pass at 4,650 masl. Camping in Qomercocha or Pachaspata.
DAY 6: Pachaspata - Pacchanta
We walked up to Pacchanta. Here we take a swim in hot springs, camp.
DAY 7: Tinki - Cusco
We cross the valley increasingly inhabited by the banks of the river Paucartambo the north side of Ausangate until the sun goes down and return to the road, reaching Tinki, there awaits us the bus ride back to Cusco.
