The Plaza de Armas is considered "Historic Plaza" not only by events that took place there, but look (as of December 14, 1999 date of the 437 anniversary of the founding of the town of Chancay Spanish) as a trophy remains of the Chilean gunboat "Our Lady of Covadonga", sunk by brave chancayanos under Lt. These parts are: the anchor, a part of the barrel and 20 meters of chain that are placed on a monument in a corner of the Plaza, opposite City Hall.
The city of Chancay, formerly Villa Arnedo, cuatricentenario town of Chancay, the district capital, is a town steeped in tradition, with a beautiful Plaza de Armas, the second of Peru for its extension. At the center stands a beautiful and historic colonial style ROUNDABOUT, scene of many historic events, political and social. is surrounded by huge trees and exquisite gardens of greenery. Today this place has become the center of political, social, cultural and leisure in the city.
Another attraction worth mentioning is the Mother Church of the Immaculate Conception, in colonial style, with its high altar, tabernacle and Baroque pulpit, altars with old molding with gold leaf. Another relic is the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel before the Convent of San Buena Ventura, now the neighborhood's Hospital Chapel.
