This 7 days tour is not your typical Inca Trail. By choosing the variant of Salkantay you will be immerse in a quiet and refreshing trek in the mountain; a great alternative to the traditional treks that most tourists do. Come experience the region of Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Llactapata & a short Inca Trail.
The group will be picked up at the hotels to travel by bus for 4hours. Later we will reach Mollepata, where we will get together with our horsemen and horses that carry the camping equipment. In this area it is possible to see the beautiful snow-capped peak of Salkantay. Afterwards we will hike for 4 hours ascending the mountain Saillapata, where it’s time to have our lunch. After lunch we will walk until reaching our campsite Soraypampa, around 5:00pm where dinner will be set up.
Early in the morning we’ll have our breakfast and then will begin a 3 hour trek until reaching the highest point of our expedition, The Salkantay Pass (4.600 m.a.s.l.). From there, we walk down towards Wayracpunku, to have our next meal. Afterwards, the journey will continue going into the high jungle where we will observe large trees with their arms stretching out over the streams, all filled with bromeliads and orchids. This trek will last around 5 hours to reach our campsite in Chaullay where we’ll have dinner and rest.
After having breakfast around 8:00 a.m., we will go by bus to Lucmabamba. From there we will walk up to the Llaqtapata ruins in about 2 hours and after a short break we descend for another half hour to the Llaqtapata lodge. We will have lunch at this amazing location with a breath taking view of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu and free time for the rest of the afternoon to relax, explore the area or go horse riding. The next morning, after a good breakfast we start the descent for about 1.5 hours to the river Ahobamba where the bus awaits us. Those who reserved in advance will do zip lining or go to the hot springs near Santa Teresa. The rest of the group will go to meeting point of Hidroelectrica where the entire group joins for the lunch after the activities. After some relaxing at this spot, we will continue walking along the train track that is leading through this great jungle that the Inca knew by heart to our final destination: Aguas Calientes. We walk for about 3 hours and you will encounter beautiful waterfalls, different Eco farms and possibly wildlife curious of your arrival in the region (arrival set for around 4:00pm). Here the group will spend the night in a hostel. At night we all will get together in a local restaurant to enjoy a great dinner and have a briefing about our next excursion to Machu Picchu. Then you are free to visit the city, which is wonderful after sunset.
Early in the morning 6:00am we will walk toward the kilometre 104 for 2 hours before we start our trek in the Inca Trail. The guide will direct you on foot to the ruins of Chachabamba where the tour will begin. From there the journey will continue and we will pass a small and refreshing waterfall on the way to the ruins of Winay Wayna where the impressive platforms will demonstrate the skill of Andean engineering. After lunch we will continue the walk to Inti Punku (Puerta del Sol) from where we will have the first sight of Machu Picchu as a beautiful panoramic of the town on the hill. From here we will take the bus to Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night, have dinner and prepare for the following day up at Machu Picchu.
We get ready around 4:00am to climb to Machu Picchu, the trek will follow an ascending path crossing the high jungle, just in time to see the spectacular sunrise. After passing the control entrance around 6:00am our group will have a private guided tour for 2 hours in the Inca citadel, later passengers will be free to enjoy Machu Picchu on their own. Late in the afternoon, according to the departure time of the train, the group will descend walking to Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo where everybody will be picked up and transfered to Cusco. The group has to be at the train station at least 30 min before departure. You can then rest in a nice hotel after this amazing adventure!
You can enjoy breakfast at your hotel before a driver transports you to the airport for your departing flight or bus station as you head to your next destination.
